The caps to cover windage and elevation adjustments screw on/off to prevent accidental loss. The 1/4 MOA adjustments are distinct and "click" into place easily. Wonderful clarity and comes with instructions for care and mounting. Made in USA!

Leupold VXII 3-9x40 mm has mid-range magnification levels and a moderate size that makes it extremely adaptable to a wide range of shooting conditions and game. The VXII Scopes are some of Leupold's most popular, and for good reason. Each has precise 1/4-minute click adjustments, the Multicoat 4 lens system for an exceptionally clear view, a tactile power indicator and a lockable, fast-focus eyepiece and more. If you want to have just one Scope, this is the one to buy: Choose a Duplex, Heavy Duplex, Wide Duplex, LR Duplex, German #1 or Leupold Dot reticle. The Duplex reticle has heavy posts to stand out against cover and in twilight conditions, pointing boldly to the intersection. Heavy Duplex has heavy posts that make it especially useful in low-light conditions. Wide Duplex is designed with a larger center gate for lightning fast target acquisition, even on a moving target. LR Duplex is a new offering that will assist you in accurate repeatable and ethical long range shooting. It has a Duplex central aiming point for rifles zeroed at 200 yds., and calibrated hold points for 300, 400, and 500 yds. The German #1 is a typical European-style reticle that is bold and easy to see, especially against tangled backgrounds and shadows. (More customer reviews)Be warned from the start the scope doesn't come with the proper instructions and though the company will provide different instructions they too are lacking. If you understand MOA (minute of angle) and Mil Dot (milliradian) then even though the reticle is 4 dot not 5 it can be calibrated to work. 12X came close as a starting point for me as a power setting. Finding distance with this type of scope requires understanding the above, a known target dimension or a nearby reference point's size and some math (you can use a charts or a mil slide-rule if math isn't your thing).The reticle focus is found by taking off the rear popup lens cover. Don't try to focus it as the included instructions suggest or you will ruin the scope. The company needs to hire a writer with scope experience to re write both sets of their useless instructions. Even the best scopes are worthless if you don't know how to use them.
The optics are not what you would find in a Leupold but then you are spending less than 10% of what you would for that quality of scope. The optics are fair and the 1/8 moa click turret adjustment was a nice surprise over 1/4.If you are looking for a scope to plunk with, a scope to learn the basics beyond "its got cross-hairs" or you want something impressive setting atop your AR15 without doubling the value of the rifle this scope isn't a bad choice.Spend a little time on the net reading about scope basics, don't expect crystal clear optics at high power and you will enjoy this scope. Bright picture. Pretty sharp edge to edge across the magnification range.
Well controlled purple fringing (blue/purple edges on high contrast between subject and background).
Well controlled flare.
This is not a tactical scope, so there is no need for constant windage and elevation adjustments.
Hence the turrets are not exposed. You operate them after taking aluminum cups off.
You operate them with your fingers - no coins or screwdrivers needed.
The turrets are little stiff. Clicks are crisp and positive.
That makes them secure.

For the moderate price you get a very solid rifle scope, with lifetime warranty and front/rear objective caps.

This is as good as it gets for that magnification range and spending more money won't buy you anything more than a sticker.

I got this bad boy mounted on my 30-06 and i've knocked the block off many a deer with it, but what I mostly use it for is prarie dog and varmit killin'. I was very impressed that I could find such a great scope at such a low price that I bought 3 of them. I would definitley recommend to any serious hunters.

(More customer reviews)This scope is great. I bought this over a Leopuld equivalent, and haven't even come close to regretting that decision. Buschnell offers a fantastic warranty, which will likely never get used because this scope is very rugged. I mounted this scope to my Remington 700 and after sighting it in have taken it a number of times hunting and to the range. It hasn't shifted at all and I haven't pampered it. The lens stays clean, does NOT fog, and doesn't catch glare at all. This scope has out-performed my expectations, and impressed all my fellow sharpshooters.
